Colourful Wedding Candles

Candles and weddings are a match made in matrimonial heaven. Candles add instant romance, atmosphere and beauty to any wedding ceremony and reception.

Generally speaking, plain white candles are a tried and tested, universally classic wedding trend because they go with everything and no matter what trend or colour scheme you pick, white candles will match. But just because something is traditional, that doesn’t mean you have to stick with it.

Instead, why not have fun with candles and use them to inject colour into your décor and centrepieces? From reinventing the classic candelabra, to playing around with metallics, there’s plenty to think about when it comes to candles.

Here’s some visual inspiration for you, to get the ideas flowing. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with me directly if you wish to chat about any aspect of your wedding planning and décor.

Revamp The Candelabra

A classic candelabra is simply stunning. There’s no other way to put it and it’s not surprising that candelabras are still a main feature in so many weddings these days. But that said, when you take a classic and give it a twist, the results can be really eye-catching. And this is so true for using colourful candles in candelabras and candlesticks. From bright pops of colour, to subtle hues of ice cream dream pastels, it’s a look to consider using on your tables.

Metallics

Metallics are still a big trend in terms of wedding décor at the moment. From rose gold, to silvers, golds and coppers, there’s so much potential to consider. Plus why not mix and match with different metals in the candlesticks or candelabras and indeed slot in bold coloured candles, to give it a really on trend feel.

Colourful Bases

If you just cannot bare to swap white candles for colourful ones, but still like the idea of experimenting with a bit of colour, why not go for some colourful bases and white candles instead? That way you’re getting the best of both worlds, a sort of traditional meets modern take on the classic look. Think up-cycled or re-painted candlesticks, but also think about bottles painted in chic metallics or your favourite rainbow of colours too.

Jars

Mason jars are now a staple in many weddings. Often we’re used to seeing them used as they are, in plain glass with white candles inside, but if you want to inject some colour, then why not think about giving them a bit of a makeover? Use an array of paints and embellishments on the outside to give the light a much more atmospheric and colourful feel when you do pop in your tea lights. Use them on tables, or as hanging lanterns for the perfect look once the sun goes down.

Wedding Floral Wall

Ever since Kim Kardashian tied the knot with Kanye West some years ago in Italy behind an enormous floral wall, it’s become one of the most sought after wedding trends. And it’s not hard to see why.  A regular feature of the Instagram-able wedding, a floral wall is a truly stunning addition to your wedding day décor and is surprisingly versatile.

While Kim and Kanye no doubt went for fresh flowers, most couples don’t have the same budget to spare, so looking into a faux floral wall is the route most couples choose. And the effect is still absolutely breath-taking.

And what’s most surprising about them is that they are incredibly versatile and you’ll find you can use a floral wall in so many ways.

Here’s some visual inspiration for you, to get the ideas flowing. We offer hire of the beautiful floral wall pictured below. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with me directly if you wish to chat about any aspect of your wedding planning and décor.

Ceremony Backdrop

So many wedding ceremonies are now taking place outside of traditional churches and that gives rise to the chance to be a little more creative with your décor.  So whether you’re saying ‘I do’ in a chic loft space, to a manor home or a hip pub, a floral wall can easily be placed as the backdrop behind the ceremony to give it the wow factor. It will look stunning for you guests on arrival and of course in the pictures too

Top Table

If you’re not in a position to have a floral wall as a backdrop in your ceremony, then why not consider having it in placed behind your top table?  Place it with draping and fairylights for that truly stunning enchanted garden or Midsummer Night’s Dream feel. Plus if you’ve already used the wall in your ceremony, then don’t think you can’t move it and place it in your venue too. That’s the beauty of it – it’s the ultimate multi-tasker.

Photo Booth

If the idea of a traditional photo booth does not appeal to you or you cannot make it happen with the budget, then use the floral wall instead. Again, remember how versatile it is. It can be positioned in the venue, you can leave some fun props, such as hats and signs, feather boas, blow up instruments, etc. and let the guests go nuts. You can leave a retro instant camera or digital camera and enjoy looking at all the snaps the next day!

Around the Room

You can move your floral wall to almost any area of your venue to suit your needs. If there’s perhaps a corner you’re not happy with or a section you need to cordon off, you can even use the wall as a beautiful visual distraction. It would also look fantastic behind your cake or dessert stations, or you can have it as a sort of red carpet arrival area for your guests complete with fake paparazzi. The possibilities are endless.

Under The Sea Wedding

Whether you’re a sailing aficionado or you just never fell out of love with Ariel from the Little Mermaid, the water in all its guises and passions is a wonderful theme for your wedding day.

There’s so many different directions you can take this versatile trend. From the more traditional nautical look of navy and white, to boats and sea shells, to the more mythic incarnations of Poseidon and the fun of under the sea and the magic of mermaids. It’s a trend that works well in a variety of settings.

Here’s some visual inspiration for you, to get the ideas flowing. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me directly if you wish to chat about any aspect of your wedding planning and décor.

Colour palette

From navy and white stripes to warm coral, Ombré blues and turquoise, aqua marine and white, the colour palettes relating to the sea are vast. Don’t be afraid to inject come pop of brights in alongside the blue hues for a really modern take. Think hot pinks and even golds to get things popping.

On the table

There’s so much you can do in terms of table décor. Think about seashell table number or coral style centrepieces. Go for different shades of blue table runners or cloths with sparkles to represent the sea. Bring rope into the equation by wrapping mason jars and tea lights and intersperse seashells and candles. Why not have table numbers inside bottles as a sort of message in a bottle? And hanging tealights over the tables will work really well for that under the sea vibe.

Around the Room

Think anchors and water rings for that traditional nautical feel. Use wooden oars as signage. Raid antique auctions and attics for a ship steeling wheel for the ultimate piece of water decor. Or seek out a Poseidon style tridents, fill oversize lanterns with your favourite shell or coral accents. Blue uplighters will give the feeling of being under the sea, as will jellyfish style paper lanterns.

Cakes

Think she shells, mussel shells, star fish and an array of colours. If you’re not keen on the shell style embellishments, then keep it simple with an Ombré style cake with a clean tone of colours from white into ocean blues. Or go for a white cake with navy and white striped ribbon around the tiers.

Wedding Llamas & Alpacas

So many of us are complete animal lovers and would just adore to have our furry friends in our wedding day. But beyond our closet pets, there’s also an increasingly popular trend to have more exotic animals in the wedding reception/photos and Llamas and Alpacas are the incredibly popular choice at the moment!

It all started on the other side of the pond, when these beautiful creatures began appearing in wedding snaps on Instagram, often dressed up in some kind of wedding attire…

It might not be to everyone’s tastes, and there are of course animal welfare issues to be considered, however the trend looks like it’s nowhere near petering out.

If you’re considering it, here’s some things to keep in mind. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me directly if you wish to chat about any aspect of your wedding planning and décor.

The Llama Factor

Llamas in weddings are a huge trend at the moment. You cannot go onto Instagram without spotting these stunning creatures in a myriad of wedding shots. While it’s a trend that started in the USA, it has, like most trends made its way over to this side of the Atlantic too. There are now several suppliers who can now arrange to have a pair of alpacas for your wedding photos and/or drinks receptions.

Dublin Zoo

If you and your partner are total animal nuts, then consider having your wedding ceremony on an animal location. Dublin Zoo for example has specific packages for wedding ceremonies! But if hippos and giraffes aren’t your sort of thing, then consider other locations such as petting farms and open farms, where you can get up close and personal with more familiar animals like pigs, sheep, cows, rabbits, horses etc. Also keep in mind that your venue might indeed have some kind of animals on the premises. For example many country house hotels have chickens, or ducks, or pigs and it’s worth asking if you can have access to them for your pictures.

Animal Welfare

Animal welfare is a huge issue to keep in mind when hiring a company who will bring along animals to your wedding reception. Most of these suppliers are consummate professionals and look after the animals well, ensuring they are never overwhelmed, etc. Just ensure you choose a reputable company who meets animal welfare standards before going ahead.

Pets

Of course, the easiest way to include animals in your big day, is to get your own family pet or pet’s involved. So whether that means having your dog as a ring bearer, or arriving at the church riding your horse or grabbing your moggy for a few snaps, it’s a simple way to get animals into the picture.

Graphic Prints and Colour Wedding Theme

A feast for the eyes, this theme is about being big and bold, from graphic monochrome prints to hot pops of summer colour, there’s nothing subtle about it.

Think chevron, ikat, stripes, floral, paisley, geometric, wigwam and you’ve got it. Of course those are just some of the best know styles of graphic prints, but if you really want to give this trend a new spin, then think beyond the obvious and go for graphic prints of animals, fruits, or items like VW camper vans or anything in between.

Key to making this work, is to think contrast and clash with some bold pops of colour.

Here’s some ideas to get you thinking. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me directly if you wish to chat about any aspect of your wedding planning and décor.

Invites

If the thoughts of a big graphic statement in your wedding décor is not your sort of thing, but you still want to get a taste of the trend into your day, then do it with your invites! You can have huge fun with them and the best part is that it’s not going to be a massive visual statement in your décor.

Backdrops

Think big when it comes to this type of backdrop. You want a truly bold, stand out print with a splash of colour to really tick the trend box. Whether that’s monochrome stripes with a pop of pink, or gold chevrons with a pop of black, don’t be afraid to have fun here. Use the backdrops in your ceremony, as your own DIY photobooth or in your reception behind the top table or dessert/cake table for example.

On the Table

When it comes to the table, think table cloths and runners in vivid stripes, paisley, chevron, wigwam, geometric, brocade and everything in between! Contrast these vivacious prints with bold colours in terms of florals and tealights or candles interspersed and you’ve got a stunning look ready to go.

The Cake

The cake is still very much a visual centrepieces for a lot of weddings, so going bold with its design is a great way to inject some colour into your wedding décor. Have fun with colour and texture here. Don’t be afraid to have clashing tiers too!
