Wedding Ceremony And Entrance Decor

When it comes to wedding day décor, couples can often focus too much on the reception. While it’s true, this is where you’ll spend the bulk of the day, don’t forget to put some care and attention into you ceremony venue or church too.

It’s a great way to set the tone for your day. Remember, this is the first thing your guests are going to see, so it’s important to add your own stamp to proceedings. A lot of this will depend on your ceremony venue, as churches may have certain rules when it comes to certain items, whereas a non-religious ceremony tends to be a little more flexible.

Having said that, whether that’s just small touches such as lanterns and bay trees by the door, or if you want to go full on with aisle runners and floral arches, there’s so much you can do to bring your ceremony to life.

Here’s some suggestions to get you going. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me directly if you wish to chat about any aspect of your wedding planning and décor.

Aisle Runners & Pew Ends

If you want to make a big impact with just one item, then it’s got to be an aisle runner. They instantly transform the look of your ceremony venue or church. You can go all out with a specially created aisle runner featuring a monogram, favourite quote or the names of the couple and the details of the day. But you can also get just as much impact with a plain white or red aisle runner too. Don’t forget about pew ends. From lanterns, to tea lights, mini buckets, florals, bows, photos and everything in between the only limit is your imagination.

Dress the Door

Generally speaking, the door is your first chance to set the tone for the day for your guests, so don’t overlook it. Small touches like lanterns and a couple of bay trees will make all the difference. If you want to go all out why not invest in a bespoke floral arch and some draping for a real wow factor look?

Backdrops

Backdrops are not always possible in a church setting, so discuss it with your church point of contact in advance. There’s so many ways to add a backdrop to your ‘I do’ and it will look stunning in your photos. You could do a Kim and Kanye and have a beautiful floral wall, or keep it more subtle with draping and fairy lights. For a modern twist why not have a bespoke neon signage or for a retro look try vintage doors or even wooden pallets.

Seating

Again, churches tend to have pews already in situ, but for non-religious ceremony venues, make sure to think about the seating and how it’s going to look as it’s going to form a large part of the overall feel. Think about on trend ghost chairs, chic Chiavari chairs, covers and sashes, draping, Hannah Jane chairs or even bistro chairs.

Ultra Violet Pantone Colour of the Year

Ultra violet is the Pantone colour of the year for 2018 and it is truly stunning. Vivid, bright and eye-catching this is a colour you can really use to make your wedding pop. While it can be tempting to go all out, it does have the potential to overwhelm the look of your wedding, so when using it, use it carefully.

For example, think about using it for you bridesmaid dresses as a stunning counterpoint to your dress, but then don’t go for all out purple décor in your venue, instead add subtle pops here and there. Or use shades of ultra violet and purple instead of one big splash of colour.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch with me directly if you wish to chat about any aspect of your wedding planning and décor.

Flowers

Go for a few perfectly placed vivid ultra violet blooms interspersed with hits of blush and lots of greenery for a really on trend take that will look superb against the white or creams of the brides dress. Don’t forget things like Hydrangeas and of course Lavender. Be sure to match the buttonholes to the gent’s suits as say a light navy or blue might clash with the ultra violet. Experiment with succulents or even purple sprouting broccoli in your bouquets which look fantastic in purple shades with a hit of green.

Attire

Bridesmaids dresses in this vivid ultra violet shade provide a stunning contrast against the brides dress and will look incredible in the photos. If that seems a little OTT, then why not think about having the brides shoes in ultra violet for a pop of unexpected colour? Add a purple sash to your flower girls dresses. For the men, you could add some ultra violet ties, or even socks for another unexpected dash of colour.

Table and Room Décor

For a big hit of colour consider ultra violet table cloths. If that sounds a little too much then try napkins or glassware as a great focal point. Purple candles, florals and low level boxes filled with lavender or succulents will look stunning. Why not get DIY and paint some mason jars and fill with florals in shades of purple. Use purple coloured lighting in the room to set a stunning scene too and string purple pompoms or paper lanterns around the venue or over the dancefloor.

Food and Drink

Why not create some bespoke purple cocktails and lemonades for guests on arrival instead of traditional bubbles? Little touches like macaroons work so well in this colour palette too. When it comes to the main cake, the ever popular geode style cake trend was made for a hit of ultra violet! Think purple ombre buttercream finishes as well as tiers dressed with marbling and offset with vivid hits of full on purple.

Copper Wedding Trend

Metallics are always a winner when it comes to wedding day décor. Rose gold has been the super-hot metallic of choice for the last few years, but this year sees a definite move away from rose gold and a move toward copper instead.

Expect to see it everywhere from invitations, to ceremony décor, to the wedding venues, centrepieces and even cakes.

Copper is a bit of a chameleon as you can include into most themes. Brushed copper works well for rustic or vintage themes, while polished copper is perfect for a more elegant theme.

It also works incredibly well if you want to channel an industrial or minimalist vibe to your wedding day décor. If that’s not your thing and you want to keep things a bit softer, copper is a perfect match with pink, blush and peach tones. And if you want to keep things bang on trend then consider a contrast between metallic copper and pastel florals.

In the meantime, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me directly if you wish to chat about any aspect of your wedding planning and décor.

Stationary
From save the dates, to your official invitees, to the orders of service, to your menus and escort cards, copper can look stunning. Whether you want to go all out with some embossed or pressed metallic copper invites, or you just want to use copper colourings, there are a whole host of styles to choose from.

Around the room
Why not source a piece of copper and have the table plan engraved on it for a really show stopping piece? Raid the attic or go to your local vintage auction to find some copper pieces like birdcages or frames that can be hung on the wall around the venue or used for signage. Copper lanterns would be ideal too and you can either use these on the tables, or around the venue or even have them hanging above the tables. Copper cans can work superbly well if you want to have escort cards too.

On the table
If you’re going for a rustic or vintage theme, then upcycle some cans with copper spray. You can do the same with mason jars and different shaped bottles and jars too. If you want something a little more polished then look out for oversized copper vases, or if you want a minimalist touch then copper style terrariums filled with cacti are ideal. Why not add some copper chairs for a really strong visual impact?

Food and Drinks
Copper works surprisingly well when it comes to food and drinks. Why not have large copper stills or pots filled with drinks so guests can help themselves? A Moscow Mule arrival drink would be ideal too. Copper and cakes look stunning and works incredibly well with marble, so consider having different effects for each tier of your cake. If a copper cake doesn’t float your boat then consider a copper cake stand or topper.

Pros and Cons of a Mini-Moon

The honeymoon is that part of the wedding preparations that can often seem as if it’s far in the distance. It’s something you plan for, but it can be hard to focus on it until you get the wedding behind you.

But trust me, by the time you’ve finished celebrating your wedding day or weekend, a breakaway is going to very soon become an absolute necessity!

Today, the trend for honeymoons has moved toward shorter breaks or ‘mini-moons.’ But that said, the traditional 2-3 week honeymoon is still very much alive and kicking.

Whichever you decide to go for of indeed both, make sure it fits in with your overall plans and budget.

In the meantime, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me directly if you wish to chat about any aspect of your wedding planning and décor.

What is a Mini-Moon?
A mini-moon is essentially a shorter break taken right after the wedding. Generally speaking, the idea is you then take a fuller honeymoon at some point later the future.

Mini-Moon Pros

Budget
The reasons for the rise in popularity of the mini-moon are tied to the fact that these days most couples tend to pay for all of or part of their wedding themselves and it can really take a huge chunk out of your savings. By waiting to take your full honeymoon for a few months, it will allow you to replenish your savings.

Less Travel Time
Generally speaking mini-moon destinations are not that far away, which means you’ll spend less time travelling to your destination and more time enjoying it.

More for Less
Often if you aren’t going as far afield or somewhere exotic, you can get a lot more bang for your buck and can avail of midweek specials, with say a luxury country house hotel.

Mini Moon Cons

Too Short
After the huge run up to the wedding and all the work that has gone into it, often a long break is needed for both your mind and body. So a mini-moon can run the risk of being too short.

The Honeymoon Won’t Feel Special
There’s a real sense of excitement about going away right after your wedding for the first time as a married couple. If you wait to do that properly, you can sometimes lose that special sense of being newlyweds.

Procrastination
Let’s face it, you may very well end up putting the honeymoon on the long finger, so sometimes it can be better to strike when the iron is hot, rather than wait.
