The Pros and Cons of a New Year’s Eve Wedding

Getting married on New Years Eve (NYE) has a certain appeal to it. Think The Great Gatsby with opulence, champagne towers, glitter and even fireworks!

In short, it’s guaranteed to be a huge party that has the potential to be truly memorable and if that’s something you want for your wedding, then it is well worth considering it.

However, there are potential pitfalls, not least of which is a spiralling budget as costs will invariable be higher.

If you’d like to chat about this or any other aspect of your wedding day plans, then don’t hesitate to get in touch with me directly.

Pros

Family Will Be Off

Generally speaking friends and family will be off work for the festive season and most will also have New Year’s Day off too, which means you could have a relaxed brunch or lunch the following day with your guests.

Memorable Anniversary

It might sound ludicrous to you now, but after you’ve been married a few years, you might occasionally forget your anniversary. But if it coincides with NYE, then you’re likely never to forget it again, plus you’ll hopefully both be off work and free to celebrate every year.

There Will Be A Party Feel

Because it’s NYE, there will already be a huge sense of party in the air. You can expect your venue or hotel to be buzzing that evening with a high possibility of other functions or events going on, unless your venue is a bespoke location.

The Glam Factor

If you are a total bling, glitter bug, then getting hitched on NYE is the ideal day because you can take your passion to the max, more than any other time of the year!

Cons

More Expensive

Generally speaking most weddings on NYE will see a hike in costs. This includes venue hire, staff time for working on NYE, as well as other vendors.

Expectations are High

On NYE, there are expectation of a bigger bash, i.e. perhaps involving something like a fireworks display a midnight, special favours, décor or extras such as photobooths etc.? It is something to bear in mind and can add to the inflating of the budget

Long Standing Plans

At this time of year people can have long standing plans or even family traditions such as going away for NYE and that means it will be difficult for them to change it. Make sure to let them know well in advance or do a check of the key people before you book.

Losing the Bespoke Feel

Because it’s NYE your wedding will lose some of its personal identity as you’ll be sharing the day with another occasion. Even if your venue has a one wedding a day policy, there is likely to still be festivities of some sort which might distract from your wedding day.

Winter Wedding Favours

Winter weddings are very special. While winter may not be everyone’s first choice for their big day, there is just something about saying ‘I do’ at this time of year that brings an air of extra romanticism to proceedings. The stark bare trees, the often crisp blue skies, or if you’re lucky a dusting of snow!

To match the beauty of the season, why not go for some winter themed wedding favours to welcome and thank your guests for sharing in your special day?

Everything from personalised festive baubles, to homemade hot chocolate mixes are the ideal partner to your winter wedding day fun.

If you’d like to chat about this or any other aspect of your wedding day plans, then don’t hesitate to get in touch with me directly.

DIY

If you’re a dab hand at DIY treats or crafting then this is the perfect excuse to devise something truly special for your wedding favours. Think of the winter theme and try your hand at homemade mincemeat for pies or honeys. Why not put together a special hot chocolate mix or cook up some home brew? If you’re really crafty who not make some snow globes with mason jars?

Edible Treats

At this time of year, the scope for edible treats skyrockets! And everyone loves to find something sweet waiting for them at their seat. So think of things such as, candy canes, mince pies, gingerbread people or even bespoke snowflake cakepops!

A Touch of Bling

Tis the season to sparkle, so why not bring this into your wedding favours? A specially created, personalised festive bauble or snowflake is a really thoughtful gift and one your guests will hopefully hang on their trees for the years to come.  Or why not go for something fun and budget-friendly like sparklers?

Winter Treats

Everyone loves a little something to keep them toasty over the winter season, so why not give your guests items such as gloves, mini hot water bottles, personalised blankets or mittens! Mini bottles of Prosecco would be ideal if you’re tying the knot close to New Year’s Eve. Or why not go for something green like a mini evergreen, or a pine cone fire starter?

Faux Fur and Glitter Wedding Theme

Wondering what theme to have for your winter wedding? Well if you’re a lover of all things, glam and luxe then why not have a faux fur and glitter thread running through your wedding day décor?

Think Dr. Zhivago meets The Great Gatsby and you’ve got it.

It’s the perfect theme for the winter season as it fuses the ideas of winter warmth and elegance, with the decadence of the season.

There’s no set rules with this theme, simply mix and match ideas that suit your taste. You could simply have some faux fur elements in the bridal attire and a smattering of sparkle dust on your tables, or you could go all out with an elaborate faux fur and glitter centrepiece. It’s up to you.

If you’d like to chat about this or any other aspect of your wedding day plans, then don’t hesitate to get in touch with me directly.

Attire

Winter brides and faux fur are a match made in heaven. Think stoles, shawls and handmuffs for the bride and the bridesmaids. For the grooms, why not bring some faux fur touches into the buttonholes and add a dusting of glitter for the perfect fusion.

Around the room

Invest in some lush Faux Fur throws and blankets if you’ve got access to an outdoor area and might want to invite guests to sit around a fire pit and toast some marshmallows with a cosy throw to keep them warm. Why not drape the couple’s chairs in faux fur throws and some glitter elements?  Mason jars encrusted with glitter or lanterns filled with fairylights or candles arranged on faux fur throws will give the Dr. Zhivago feel to the room, especially paired with a roaring open fire. Why not create some stunning backdrops with faux fur elements, feathers dipped in glitter or glitter streamers?

On the Table

Got for faux fur place settings and if you’ve got long tables then a faux fur table runner that’s got some sparkle to it will look stunning. Intersperse these with glitter elements, such as candles dusted in glitter and it will be the ideal match.  Again if you’re going for a more rustic theme and have long picnic style tables, then having some faux fur throws draped over the benches that would look super. If you want to go super glam, then why not have large feather style arrangements for your centrepieces with glitter table clothes for the ultimate in luxe?

Food and Drinks

While you can’t really bring faux fur into your food and drinks, you can certainly add touches here and there. Why not have your cake sitting on a fur arrangement? Or serve trays of bubbles with the rims dipped in glitter from faux fur lined trays?  Have your glitter encrusted cake sitting on some faux fur for a real showstopper.

Alternatives to the Bridal Bouquet

A bride’s bouquet is something very special. It’s as individual as she is and reflects her personal style and tastes. It’s also an integral part of the wedding day. Like the dress, the ceremony and the meal, the bouquet is a crucial part of the entire process.

That said, there’s no reason why you have to stick with convention and go with traditional flowers. Indeed, today brides are choosing some stunning, fun and creative alternatives for their bouquets. Bear in mind that many elements of these alternatives can also be fused with real florals for a truly unique look.

Apart from allowing you to show off your personality a little more, alternative bouquets, tend to make fantastic keepsakes that you might even pass on to the next generation one day.

If you’d like to chat about this or any other aspect of your wedding day plans, then don’t hesitate to get in touch with me directly.

Brooches and Buttons

One of the biggest trends in recent times is for brooch bouquets. These are bouquets made entirely of stunning brooches and jewels all cobbled together into the shape of a bouquet. You can make this a personal as you wish by incorporating keepsakes from your loved one. Buttons are another beautiful idea and can work well alongside the brooches. Either way, they make for a stunning keepsake after the wedding day.

Paper

Be it sheet music from your favourite song as a couple, passages of books, pom poms made out of vibrant crepe, origami or a paper map of the world. Paper bouquets give you huge scope to be creative. Plus they are very economical compared to fresh flowers and again will last as a keepsake after the day.

Burlap and Lace

Burlap and lace are a match made in heaven and if you’re going for a vintage chic sort of look, then this really is a wonderful alternative to fresh flowers. Especially if you’re got a crafty streak or indeed a relative is a dab hand with a sewing machine. It will make the bouquets even more special.

Feathers and Shells

Make a total style statement with some flashy feathers and stunning shells for your bouquet. These two can go together, but often look best as either one or the other. If you’re having a bit of a marine theme or are a total water goddess, then shells will look truly fantastic for your bouquet. Feathers can also be a great addition to a floral bouquet or go all out with an entire bouquet made of feathers too.

Succulents

If you’re a bit of a botanic aficionado, then why not go for a bouquet of succulents? Try some exotic cacti with unusual colours and shapes and intersperse with regular blooms and green leaves.
